TDS Calculator

A TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) calculator estimates the tax a bank or tenant must deduct at source on FD/RD interest (Section 194A) or rent (Section 194-IB) before paying you, based on the applicable threshold and rate.

Formula

TDS = Payment Amount × TDS Rate%, applied only once the payment crosses the section's exemption threshold within the financial year.

Worked example

Input: ₹60,000 annual FD interest from one bank (Section 194A)

Result: Interest exceeds the ₹40,000 threshold (₹50,000 for senior citizens), so TDS applies at the applicable rate on the full interest amount

Frequently asked

Can I avoid TDS on FD interest if my total income is below the taxable limit?

Yes — submit Form 15G (or 15H for senior citizens) to the bank declaring your total income is below the taxable threshold, and the bank won't deduct TDS.

Is TDS the final tax, or does it get adjusted later?

TDS is an advance collection, not the final liability — it's adjusted against your actual tax due when you file your return, with any excess refunded.

TDS Calculator: how it works

TDS is tax withheld by the payer at prescribed rates for each payment category, credited against the recipient's final tax liability.

Formula

TDS = payment amount × the section's prescribed rate, applied once the section's threshold is crossed.
