Fixed Deposit (FD)
A Fixed Deposit calculator computes the maturity value of a lumpsum deposited with a bank for a fixed tenure at a fixed interest rate, compounded at a chosen frequency.
Maturity Value = P × (1 + r/f)^(f × n), where P is the deposit amount, r is the annual interest rate, f is the compounding frequency per year, and n is the tenure in years.
Input: ₹5,00,000 for 5 years at 7% annual interest, compounded quarterly
Result: Maturity value ≈ ₹7.05 lakh
Does compounding frequency actually make a meaningful difference?
A modest one — quarterly compounding yields slightly more than annual compounding at the same nominal rate, because interest starts earning interest sooner.
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes, FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate — unlike equity LTCG, there's no separate lower rate or exemption threshold.
FD Calculator: how it works
An FD calculator computes the maturity value of a fixed deposit, where the principal earns a fixed rate compounded at a set frequency until the term ends.
Formula
Maturity = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t), where n is the number of compounding periods per year and t the tenure in years.
